Our beloved teacher, master drummer and founder of Tam Tam Mandingue, Mamady Keita was recently hospitalized in France with pulmonary edema, a serious condition of accumulated fluid in the lungs, which is one of the health issues brought on by his congestive heart disease. We are happy to report that he is doing very well and was released from the hospital after a couple of days and has spent the remainder of February chilling out in Brussels. He plans to return home to San Diego in early March.
Mamady wants everyone to know that he is feeling much better and is following doctors’ orders to rest and regain his strength. He intends to resume his workshop schedule in San Diego in mid-March thru April and then begin the Grand Masters Tour with Famoudou Konate in May.
As you might imagine, being hospitalized overseas makes for some pretty big bills. In response to those who have asked how they can help, TTM USA has created a Medical Donation Fund to help with Mamady’s unexpected expenses due to his hospitalization as well as his ongoing medical bills. Since TTM USA is a non-profit organization, donations are tax-deductible in the U.S. Please email info@ttmusa.org if you have any questions. Donations can be made with a credit card on-line through the TTM Marketplace or mailed to: TTM USA, Attn: Medical Fund, P. O. Box 83164, San Diego, CA 92138. 100% of your donation will go directly to Mamady to help with these medical expenses.
